These are the latest ruck sacks I have made. They are in fact my fourth batch.
I use strong, vibrant fabrics, with a soft feel. The head, tail/wings and legs are padded and so are the connectors for the adjustable back  straps. There is a button to keep the head closed and a Velcro inside the bag for added security. The bag measures a roomy 27cm x 27cm.


Estas sao a minha ultima fornada de mochilas. De facto sao a minha quarta fornada.
Emprego tecidos com cores vibrantes mas agradaveis ao tacto. A cabeca, caudas/asas e pernas sao enchidas, bem como os conectores das alcas (ajustaveis). Um grande botao na barriga mantem a cabeca fechada, mas no interior tem um velcro para maior seguranca. O saco mede uns espacosos 27cm x 27cm.

Fabric Books / Livros de Pano

I've managed to finish another set of fabric books. For the next couple of months I'll be busy but not with these. I really enjoy doing them, but they take quite a long time to create the pieces before I can edit the books. Sounds funny to say that I'm editing.

I need to start thinking/designing other crafts. Does anyone have the same problem as me: need to keep changing onto new things? So this summer I am going to wash wool, spin and with a bit of luck start weaving. Can't wait!

Acabei mais uma serie de livros de pano. Nos proximos meses vou estar ocupada mas nao com estes. Gosto imenso de faze-los, mas requerem muito tempo, sobretudo a cortar e criar todas as pecas que depois edito nos livros. Engracado falar de editar livros de pano.

Tenho que comecar a pensar/desenhar novos trabalhos. Mais alguem tem o mesmo problema que eu: preciso de estar sempre a mudar e criar novos trabalhos? Este verao vou lavar la, fiar e com sorte, tecer. Nao gosto nada de esperar...

Fabric Books Livros de Pano

A sample of the new Fabric Books. I took a bit of time to finish these. Made as well some minor changes on finishings and details that makes them more user friendly.

Uma amostra dos nove Livros de Pano. Levei um bocadinho de tempo a acaba-los, incluindo algumas pequenas alteracoes nos acabamentos e materiais aplicados, mas ficam mais resistentes aos dedos pequenos.

Animal Rucksacks / Mochilas animais

These are the Animal Rucksacks for children. They are: a dog, a bunny, a bird, a piggy and a cat. These spacious bags are made with strong colourfull cotton fabrics and lined with plain cotton. The features are all felt and the closure is a big button. The shoulder straps are padded and fully adjustable to the child.

Estes sao as Mochilas Animais para criancas. Um cao, coelho, passaro, porquinho e gato. Todas elas sao construidas com tecidos coloridos grossos  e forradas com tecidos lisos, todos de algodao. Os pormenores sao em feltro e todas fecham com um botao grande. As alcas nos ombros sao estufadas e ajustaveis.

Busy, busy, busy! Muito atarefada!

I know I have been away for a long time, but it doesn't mean that I haven't been busy. I've been making so many things that I loose track of time and forget that if I don't show... no one will know.

                       These are the new Belt-Pouches.
Inspired on the traditional portuguese "algibeiras" the women used to carry under their skirt. They are made with upholstery fabrics and  lined with cotton fabrics.

Estes sao as novas bolsas de cinto. Inspirei-me nas antigas "algibeiras" que tradicionalmente as mulheres usavam por debaixo das saias. Sao feitas com tecidos de estofaria e forro de algodao.

Just arrived! Acabadinhas de chegar

Has been a long time, but it doesn't mean that I've been less busy. These are the latest arrivals. Soft dolls (mum and daughter) made with traditional vintage design portuguese fabrics (chitas). The mums are just awaiting to have their dresses finished.

Faz algum tempito que nao apareco, mas nao quer dizer que tenha estado de bracos cruzados. Estas sao as minhas ultimas novidades. As bonecas(mae e filha) sao feitas com chitas portuguesas. So faltam os vestidos para as maes.

Have been too busy to be able to write here. These are part of the felted cats waiting to be embroidered.

Tenho estado muito ocupada para conseguir vir aqui escrever. Ficam aqui parte dos gatos quando ainda a espera de serem bordados.

For a while I will be staying at my parents place. As I could not leave behind my "things" they have kindly put at my disposal as lovely space for me. Here it is! With loads of light and quite a few table tops and legs, I have the most fantastic space to work from. (and yes, the fan is necessary due to the warm weather).

Nos proximos tempos estarei em casa dos meus pais. Como nao podia deixar as minhas "coisas" atras, deixaram-me utilizar este espaco. Aqui esta! Tem imensa luz e descobri varios tampos e pernas de mesas, o que faz com que esteja a trabalhar num sitio belissimo (e sim, a ventoinha faz falta, dado o calor...)

Something more / Mais uma coisita

On the left are some of the new recycled plastic fabrics that I've made. Haven't got round making the bags, but they will come in time for Christmas.

A esquerda estao alguns dos tecidos de plastico reciclado que tenho andado a fazer. Ainda nao fiz os sacos, mas estarao prontos para o Natal.

Amongst other projects, I'm working on the Tram (left). I made one in felt and am making a different size in cotton and felt fabrics. Will have to test them again with the children to see which works better

Entre outros projectos estou a trabalhar num Carro Electrico (esquerda). Fiz um em feltro e estou a completar um em riscados e feltro, mas mais pequeno. La terei de os testar, de novo com as criancas, para ver qual fundiona melhor.

And to finalize: Mark gave me this book as a present! A lovely, lovely book, but unfortunately it doesn't have the patterns for the cards so I will have to do some guessing work and develop new ones (unless someone out there has a copy that could lend me...)

E para finalizar: Mark deu-me o livro ao lado, como prendinha! Um livro que gosto muito, mas infelizmente nao contem a folha com os moldes para os cartoes, portanto vou ter que fazer um proco de experimentacao e desenhar novos (a nao ser que haja alguem ai fora, que tenha um e me possa emprestar...)

The new fabric books

These are made with more sturdy fabrics, but still maintaining the soft feeling. Each page has a different activity, but there are diferences in the layout, in relation to the previous fabric books that I made. As a result of the feed back I got from different people (teachers, parents and the more important friends with ages between 3 and up to 8 years old) I have changed and added new activities. These are two books that seem similar but complement each other. As always, no two are the same.

Os novos livros de pano

Estes ja sao feitos com tecidos mais resistentes, sem deixar de ser fofinhos. Cada pagina continua com uma actividade, mas com disposicao diferente em relacao aos anteriores livros feitos. Como resultado do "feed back" recebido (professores, pais e os amigos mais importantes com idades compreendidas entre os 3 e os 8 anos) alterei e acrescentei novas actividades. Estes sao dois livros semelhantes mas que se complementam. Como sempre, nao ha dois iguais.

Softies / Fofetes

I had promissed to post pictures and here it is: these are the lastest Softies (a mousse, a bunny, a fox and a lamb) all with a squeak and ready to go.

Havia prometido e aqui esta: os ultimos Fofinhos feitos (um rato, um coelho, uma raposa e um carneiro) todos com apitoe prontinhos para ir.

Actibags / Acti-sacos

For the last month I've been without a charger for my camera, so I couldn't show what were my last productions. However, got one now and here are a sample of my latest things for little fingers.

Made with upholstery fabric remnants (two different fabrics, front and back), on one side of the bag there is an activity to be done. The activities from the fabric books that I have been making, as an alternative for someone that is a little bit older and likes to carry his/hers own toys or books as well. The bag measures approx: 30cm x 22cm (plus handle)

Nao tenho podido mostrar imagens do que tenho andado a produzir, porque o carregador da minha maquina fotografica levou sumisso. Agora que tenho um novo, ca vai uma amostra do que fiz para dedos pequenos.

Estes sacos sao feitos com restos de tecidos de estofaria (dois tipos diferentes por saco) onde numa face tem uma actividade destinada ao desenvolvimento da motricidade fina. Estas sao replicas das paginas dos livros de pano que faco, como alternativa para criancas um pouco mais crescidas e que gostam de carregar os seus brinquedos e/ou livros. O sacos medem aproximadamente 30cm x 22cm (mais a alca)

From an old album / de um album velho

This was done as a possible entry for a Quilt exhibition in Europe (Belgium) a few years ago. The art work had to be done around the kymono shape and the title of the exhibition was Ky-monologue.

Here I mixed soft sculpture with shibory, free seweing, aplique and fabric manipulation.

I quite enjoyed doing it. The fact that it had to be real size kymono allowed me to use the hands (mine obviously) in real size as well. I think it really represents the monologues I still do while deciding what comes next: my hands move in front of me touching and turning all sorts of things. Here it's as if I can whatch them from another angle.

Este trabalho foi feito como entrada para uma exposicao de quilts na Europa (Belgica). O trabalho tinha que ser apresentado na forma de quimono mas com o tema: Ky-monologue.

Tecnicamente juntei soft-sculture ( escultura de pano?) a shibori, costura livre, aplique e manipulacao de tecido.

Gostei imenso de o fazer. Porque tinha que ser baseado em tamanho real, pude aplicar as maos (minhas claro) em tamanho real tambem. Acho que representa bem os monologos que ainda faco comigo mesma enquanto decido o que vem a seguir: as minhas maos movem-se em frente de mim, tocando e produzindo toda uma serie de coisas.

Mas aqui, posso vejo-as de um angulo diferente.

Old work / antigos trabalhos

I've been doing some spring cleaning and came across some images of previous art works done. Thought I would post here.
In all I have fused fabrics onto each other or onto paper. The lines are in free stitching.
What made me do them?
The first is a mixture of urban and colours. I remember doing it during a hot summer, so the colours are a big part of it, but there was some breeze and the see through colours reflect that.


Tenho andado a fazer uma pequena limpeza e dei com algumas imagens de antigos trabalhos meus. Pensei em partilhar aqui.
Em todos fundi tecidos uns com os outros ou com papel. As linhas sao feitas cosendo em ponto livre.
O que me levou a faze-los?
O primeiro e uma mistura de urbano e cores. Lembro-me de que era verao - dai que as cores jogam um papel importante - e havia uma briza que a transparencia dos tecidos reproduz.

The next two are speak from themselves. Although not a very good gardener, I do need to be close to it. I like to feel and smell the wet soil and see the plants sprout and bloom.

O dois seguintes trabalhos falam por si proprios. Apezar de nao ser boa jardineira, preciso sempre de estar perto de um. Gosto de sentir o cheiro do solo molhado e ver as plantas a rebentar e florir.
