From an old album / de um album velho

This was done as a possible entry for a Quilt exhibition in Europe (Belgium) a few years ago. The art work had to be done around the kymono shape and the title of the exhibition was Ky-monologue.

Here I mixed soft sculpture with shibory, free seweing, aplique and fabric manipulation.

I quite enjoyed doing it. The fact that it had to be real size kymono allowed me to use the hands (mine obviously) in real size as well. I think it really represents the monologues I still do while deciding what comes next: my hands move in front of me touching and turning all sorts of things. Here it's as if I can whatch them from another angle.

Este trabalho foi feito como entrada para uma exposicao de quilts na Europa (Belgica). O trabalho tinha que ser apresentado na forma de quimono mas com o tema: Ky-monologue.

Tecnicamente juntei soft-sculture ( escultura de pano?) a shibori, costura livre, aplique e manipulacao de tecido.

Gostei imenso de o fazer. Porque tinha que ser baseado em tamanho real, pude aplicar as maos (minhas claro) em tamanho real tambem. Acho que representa bem os monologos que ainda faco comigo mesma enquanto decido o que vem a seguir: as minhas maos movem-se em frente de mim, tocando e produzindo toda uma serie de coisas.

Mas aqui, posso vejo-as de um angulo diferente.

Old work / antigos trabalhos

I've been doing some spring cleaning and came across some images of previous art works done. Thought I would post here.
In all I have fused fabrics onto each other or onto paper. The lines are in free stitching.
What made me do them?
The first is a mixture of urban and colours. I remember doing it during a hot summer, so the colours are a big part of it, but there was some breeze and the see through colours reflect that.


Tenho andado a fazer uma pequena limpeza e dei com algumas imagens de antigos trabalhos meus. Pensei em partilhar aqui.
Em todos fundi tecidos uns com os outros ou com papel. As linhas sao feitas cosendo em ponto livre.
O que me levou a faze-los?
O primeiro e uma mistura de urbano e cores. Lembro-me de que era verao - dai que as cores jogam um papel importante - e havia uma briza que a transparencia dos tecidos reproduz.

The next two are speak from themselves. Although not a very good gardener, I do need to be close to it. I like to feel and smell the wet soil and see the plants sprout and bloom.

O dois seguintes trabalhos falam por si proprios. Apezar de nao ser boa jardineira, preciso sempre de estar perto de um. Gosto de sentir o cheiro do solo molhado e ver as plantas a rebentar e florir.

In process / Em processo

I've been busy with designing a new range of soft toys. I haven't found yet a child that doesn't like to play with garden bugs, and so I am designing a new range: Garden Bugs. The image show the first prototypes I've made, but already I'm thinking of changing the caterpillar (looks a bit like a whale). The cricket is fine and I think the snail will be good at the end.

Tenho estado a desenvolver novos brinquedos de pano. Como ainda nao encontrei uma crianca que nao gostasse de brincar com bichinhos do jardim, a minha nova linha e mesmo: Bichinhos de Jardim. Acima estao os primeiros prototipos mas ja vi que a lagarta parece mais uma baleia e vou ter que a alterar. Mas estou satisfeita com o grilo e acho que o caracol depois de acabado ficara lindo.

Pedestrian Arts Fair / Feira no Pedestrian Arts

Just a quick note on the Craft Fair organised by Pedestrian Arts in Leicester. A nice venue with lots of people passing through. Above are some images of my wares (lots of sun as you can see). Had the fantastic help of Agata in the morning and then Maia in the afternoon. Thanks girls!

So uma palavrinha sobre a Feira de Artesanato organizada por Pedestrian Arts. Foi um dia agradavel com muita gente a passar. Acima estao imagens do meu cantinho (imenso sol como podem ver). Tive a ajuda e companhia da Agata, de manha, e de tarde a da Maia. Obrigada meninas!

Brooches / Pregadeiras

These are photos of the last brooches I am taking to the St. George's Fair tomorrow. The base are felt and the faces are made with threads, organzas and sewed on (top stitched).

I am taking along the Fabric Books, knitted soft toys and a set of new Pet Bags. I don't have photos yet of these so I will be taking them tomorrow while in exhibition.

Of course I am not leaving behind all my recycled goods: triangle bags, felted bags, recycled notebooks...

I expect it will be a nice sunny day!

Esta e uma colagem com as fotos das pregadeiras de feltro que levo para a feira de amanha (Dia de S. Jorge). A base e feltro, mas as faces sao feitas com fios multicolores, organzas e cosidos. Levo tambem Livros de Pano, bonecos felpados e um novo grupo de Bolsas Mascote. Nao tirei ainda fotos destes ultimos, mas vou faze-lo amanha enqanto expostos.

Claro que nao deixo atras os meus produtos reciclados: bolsas triangulo, sacolas felpadas, blocos reciclados...

Espero que seja um dia cheio de sol!

Scented mushrooms (filled with a soft mixture of lavender).

Cogumelos cheirosos (enchidos com uma mistura fofinha de alfazema).

These are scented bugs.

Estes sao insectos cheirosos.

And finally my new bags. I thought it would be nice for a child to walk their pets (a bunny or a cat at the moment).

E finalmente as minhas novas malinhas. Achei que seria engracado a crianca passear o seu animal de estimacao (gato ou coelho de momento).

The fabric books / Os livros de pano

The buterfly cycle : The buterfly hides in the cocoon and it zips up.

O ciclo da borboleta: a borboleta esconde-se no casulo que fecha com zip.

The flowers are all to button up and can be hiden under the grass; On the kitten one ties the ribbon with a knot and lace.

Abotoam-se as flores mas tambem se podem esconder debaixo da relva. No gatinho da-se o no e o laco na fitinha.

On the left page there is a wardrobe where two changes of clothes are kept.The little boy on the right wayts to be dressed. I've made some with a little girl.

Na pagina da esquerda esta um guarda-fatos com duas mudas de roupa. O menino na pagina seguinte espera ser vestido. Fiz tambem uma meninas.

These are some pages of one of the fabric books I have been making, Somehow I counldn't upload a whole selection. The other pages missing are: a bed cover to be woven, a mother duck with three ducklings (these have snaps and can be hidden in a pocket) and two cords with 5 woden beads each to count.

Estas sao algumas das paginas dos livros de pano que andei fazendo. Nao consegui passar imagens de todas as paginas. Faltam: uma cama com a coberta para tecer, a mae pato com 3 patinhos (estes sao presos com molinhas de pressao e podem ser escondidos num bolso) e ainda dois cordoes com 5 contas de madeira cada, para se contar.

Back again / De volta aqui

Hi!
I've been busy with too many things, hence the silence.
Started with my home studio being flooded due to a pipe burst and so I had to evacuate everything out. Quite a few of my books were ruined. Agata and Maia were fantastic and it is thanks to them that I don't have more damages and losses.
I am now sharing a tiny space with Mark until my studio and his office are dry.
Meanwhile, Mark has designed and built me a frame for a light box, so I can start taking decent pictures of my crafts. It looks so professional.
I have just finished 4 fabric activity books (quiet book) and I'm in the process of making small lavender bags and felted purses.
I will post the pictures very soon, including the ones of my light box.

Tenho estado muito ocupada com muitas coisas, dai o silencio.
Comecando com o meu estudio que teve que ser todo evacuado porque um tubo de agua rebentou e alagou tudo. Perdi muitos livros, mas seriam ainda maiores as percas e danos se nao fossem a Agata e a Maia, mais a sua paciencia. Foram fantasticas!
Compartilho agora com Mark um espaco minusculo dentro de casa, ate o meu estudio e o seu escritorio estiverem consertados.
Entretanto, Mark desenhou e construiu uma caixa para as minhas fotografias (light box). Tem um ar muito professional.
Acabei de fazer 4 livros de pano (livro de actividades). Estou fazendo saquinhos de alfazema e bolsas de la felpada.
As fotos de tudo isto serao postas aqui dentro em breve.

Hot water bottle covers / Forras para botijas de agua quente

These covers are individually made from recycled wool. I knit and felt the fabrics before cutting and applying the decorations ( with other wool felted previously made by me) and top stitching.

Estas forras sao individualmente feitas a partir de la reciclada. Os tecidos sao tricotados e felpados por mim antes de os cortar e aplicar as decoracoes (com tecidos previamente feitos por mim) e bordados.

And we were present at the Leicester Winter Food and Crafts Festival. It was cold but with lots of people.

Bitesize (Collective Exhibition by Knighton Lane Artists Group)

The Knighton Lane Artists Group has it's last collective exhibition at the LCB Depot, Leicester (not it's last event of this year though).

The name "Bitesize" came as a challenge for all artists: to do artwork in small size. The work present ranges from ceramics and wire sculpture to painting, textiles, drawings, carvings and printing.

I'll post the pictures as soon as I get them.

The exhibition is in place until the end of November.

O Knighton Lane Astists Group tem patente a sua ultima exposicao colectiva na Galeria do LCB Depot em Leicester (mas este nao sera o nosso ultimo evento do ano).

O nome "Bitesize" (Pequenos Pedacos - minha traducao livre) foi um desafio proposto aos artistas membros: arte em tamanho pequeno.Os trabalhos presentes vao de ceramica e escultura de arame a pintura, texteis, desenho, entalhe e impressao

Assim que tiver, prometo por aqui algumas fotos.

A exposicao esta aberta ate o final do mes de Novembro.

The next Fair is at the Leicester Guildhall, Saturday and Sunday. I will be there just on Saturday.

Latest works / Os ultimos trabalhos

I have been busy elsewhere. These are some of my last works. Some will go to the Catmose exhibition, in October, and others for the LCB, in November. I will post more information here at a later stage.

Tenho andado ocupada por outros lados, mas estao aqui alguns dos meus ultimos trabalhos. Uns irao para a exposicao em Catmose, Outubro; outros para a de Novembro no LCB. Mais tarde darei mais informacao sobre estas.

This one is still in progress. I'm hoping to finish very soon. It definitely has to do with the autumn winds...

Este esta ainda em processo, mas conto acabar bem depressa. Nao ha duvida de que tem a ver com os ventos outonais...

After a not very happy start - I left it on the table for days, before I could go back to it - it sort of made it's way through. Quite pleased with it.

Nao se pode dizer que estivesse muito satisfeita com este trabalho no inicio - deixei-o dias seguido na mesa sem lhe tocar - mas eventualmente ganhou a minha atencao. Estou bem satisfeita.

It has to do with being a grandmother and kings and queens stories... It just needs the story to go with it.

Tem a ver com o ser avo e estorias de reis e rainhas... So falta a dita cuja a acompanhar.
